Offerings: Therapeutic & Supportive
Therapeutic Writing
This is a safe space to explore the healing power of writing, sharing, and bearing witness to the sharing of others. Participants often come because they want to express themselves in words and appreciate the meaning in stories – their own and others’. Sometimes they are in a time of acute emotional difficulty and are looking for the therapeutic engagement this kind of writing can offer, but just as often it calls to those in longer-term processes of inner exploration.
Groups are often offered seasonally — fall, winter, spring, usually on Wednesday evenings. Shorter series and in-the-city retreat days are also available. For those who cannot attend in person, there are options for one-to-one supportive writing work together online. See here for more on process and dates.
Daring Way™/Rising Strong Workshops
I am a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator (CDWF) in Toronto. Together, we’ll explore vulnerability, shame, and the anatomy of our own stories, in a process based on the work of Brené Brown. These groups are especially helpful for people who are in a place of wanting to connect with their most authentic selves and feel ready to move into some exploration of their vulnerability. We explore experiences of shame as well as the process of building shame resilience. We also explore what it means to harness our own courage and to move beyond some of the internal barriers we’ve created to become more fully ourselves.
These are primarily offered as weekend workshops. Specialized offerings are also available for work environments. See here for more on process and dates.
Legacy Creation
I support clients in reflecting meaningfully on their lives, through writing. This could mean writing difficult letters, engaging with personal memoir, or crafting stories to leave for the next generation. Originally, I created this offering for palliative patients, but have found this personalized process of reflection and storytelling is also meaningful for people in any life stage seeking life review support.
Because of the intimate and individual nature of this kind of writing, it is offered as a private, one-to-one service. See here for more on process and scheduling.
Personal Wellness and Burnout Prevention Workshops: 15 Minute Beginnings
My approach to healing — 15-Minute Beginnings — takes the perspective that each person’s self-care needs are unique, and that care for ourselves usually happens in small steps, not in the big leaps often sold in the self-help industry. This is informed by my own recovery from a debilitating burnout, as well as by my professional work and training over the past ten years with hundreds of people at high risk for burnout.
Workshops offer participants time to reflect on their personal well-being, and to consider ways to support themselves further moving forward. This workshop can be tailored to medical and corporate organizations to meet the specific needs of a particular group. See here for more on process and scheduling.
